By road: Lefkada is the only island you can reach by car without the expense of a ferry, using the continuous-flow bridge that connects it to Akarnania. KTEL buses run 5 daily routes (4.30 hours) to and from Athens (378 km) and 2 (5 hours) weekly routes to and from Thessaloniki (420 km). The Preveza-Aktio submarine tunnel makes it easy to access the island from north-western Greece and the port of Igoumenitsa (100 km), which is a major gateway from Western and Central Europe.
