Municipality of Lefkada - Haramogleia Library

The H.E.L.VI. is a library with specialized content, a documentation centre of Lefkada studies which operates under the responsibility of the Municipality of Lefkada through its intellectual centre. The library includes books - reprints, studies, articles of about 800 Lefkadian authors and studies concerning Lefkada classified in sixty (60) thematic units. It also includes engravings, engravings, maps, paintings, photographs and other rare objects. The beginning for the collection of the mentioned items was made by the Lefkadite scholar, the late Telis Charamogli, many years ago.

In 1984 the founder of the Library donated this rare collection to the Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Lefkada, which accepted it. The library is housed on the first floor of a traditional building with characteristics of Lefkadian architecture. The building is located in a prominent position in the old town, in the heart of the historical fabric, in Marka. The H.E.L.VI. is listed in the GUINNESS 1994 Book of Records as the largest dedicated subject library. The founder has been honoured with the Athens Academy Award (1987) and the medal of the Municipality of Lefkada (1991). The library, which is open daily from 8 am to 1 pm, is visited annually by many local and foreign visitors to Lefkada as well as students from high schools and secondary schools all over Greece. The H.E.L.VI., apart from being an eclectic attraction, is also an important station in the hoarding of local history.
