On the southeastern side of Lefkada built on the slope of the mountain Rachi, 23 km from the town of Lefkada is the Kalamitsi, one of the most traditional settlements of the island. Its location, unseen from the sea side, chosen to be protected from pirate raids. The main occupation of its inhabitants was the cultivation of cereals, which is why there are windmills on the surrounding hills. Among the old churches and chapels, the most notable is the Virgin Mary of the Gardens, once a rich monastery.

From the heights of the village, the visitor's eyes rest on the blue of the Ionian Sea while he feels wonderful when he sees the sparkling turquoise waters, the blond sandy beaches, the most beautiful on the island.
