From Komilio the road descends towards the villages Dragano and Athani with the stone-built houses and the narrow streets. In Dragano there is an olive press that is classified as a historically preserved monument. It is a remarkable example of a proto-industrial building for the processing of agricultural products and is important in the study of the history of architecture. Here the processing of olives and the production of oil was carried out manually or with the help of a horse. In Dragano there is also the temple of Ipapanti with remarkable icons by the Lefkadian hagiographers Gazis and Sideris. Here are two interesting clusters of wells from the Ottoman, Venetian, English and modern times.
In Athani there is the monastery of Agios Kirikos, founded during the Turkish occupation. Small and limited, it became a part of the monastery of Archangel Asomatos of Vaukeri in the 18th century. It was demolished by earthquakes and rebuilt repeatedly. The door of the Beautiful Gate depicting Christ, one of the oldest in the monastery, is now in the church of Panagia Rachiotissa. Near the monastery there are remains of an ancient building, as well as at the “Sotiron” site, which have been identified by the Archaeological Service.
The road from Athani branches off to three unique sandy beaches, Gialos, Egremni and Porto Katsiki. These are beaches of stunning beauty whose reputation has made the rounds of the world. Green-blue, crystal clear, crystal clear waters, with white sandy beaches, hidden under high steep cliffs, are revealed to the visitor as he slowly descends the several steps that bring him to the beach. This unique landscape is so impressive that it is forever engraved in the memory of anyone who visits these shores, whether approaching them by land or by boat from the sea.
The most famous beach, Porto Katsiki, is now considered one of the most unique in Europe, while Egremni, is also gaining daily the preferences of those seeking beaches of unusual beauty, which is worth discovering for every visitor to the island.
