Above Komilios to the north are the Herb, a large village in a very beautiful location with excellent views to the west and south. Tradition has it that the inhabitants of the village are refugees from southern Italy.
The purchase of eight bronze objects of Geometric times from a farmer of the community of Chortata led W. Dorpfeld to a small excavation in 1905 at the site of Spilia. In the rock cavities, remains of offerings, pottery shells, parts of clay figurines of classical and Hellenistic times and a lamp of Roman times were found. The site was identified as a place of local worship.
The bronze objects of Geometric times, which were purchased by W. Dorpfeld (fork, hipparium, double axes, pendants), are, so far, the only archaeological evidence of the early historical times of Lefkada before the colonization of the Corinthians.
