Wells

Municipality of Lefkada - Pigadisani

The Wells is one kilometer from the headquarters of the Municipal Unit of Karya and 12 kilometers from the capital Lefkada of our island of the same name. The village is built on a green mountain slope, almost perched on a green mountainside, surrounded by olive trees, and in a classic green, variously coloured, Ionian environment.

The main road is the backbone of the village and on either side of it are the picturesque neighbourhoods. The visitor will be captivated by the wonderful view offered by the very location of the village, which acts as a balcony.

At the foot of the village stretches the Livadi of Karya where all the colours parade depending on the season. Beyond the edge of the Livadi is the renovated monastery of Agios Ioannis Prodromos, a spiritual beacon of the region and the entire island for many centuries.

In the center of the village the visitor will enjoy coffee and appetizers with local good wine and tsipouro. In the square next to the church of Agios Nikolaos in the summer, a remarkable cultural creation will be presented. The well-established Wine Festival attracts a large number of people.

Going uphill you will reach the church of Agioi Anargyroi with a remarkable iconostasis and a wonderful view. Continuing on and out of the village you will meet the chapel of Theotokos, where the view becomes panoramic.

Going downhill you will pass through the centuries-old olive trees and the neighbourhoods of the lower village and you will reach Marcus. Here the combination of the old stone bridge, the wells, the waterfalls and the old bridge water, of old water mill and the tap, creates a landscape of particular beauty.

The fighter-symbol of the national resistance Apostolos Sandas and the opera singer Agni Baltsa come from these lands. This place invites you to live humanly at a calm pace and discover the hospitality of its inhabitants.
